Didn’t pick up the 360 ‘S’ model yet? Been waiting for a nice Limited Edition to sway your decision? Or are you just a Halo fan at heart? You are in luck, Microsoft released a press-release yesterday regarding their Halo Reach Limited Edition Console. It’s looking good.

The biggest game of 2010, “Halo: Reach,” is getting the ultimate hardware treatment. The Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle launches day and date with the game on September 14 and provides both an incredible value and a stunning way to celebrate the iconic franchise. The commemorative bundle will be available with matching custom “Halo: Reach” Limited Edition Wireless Controllers. Additionally, Microsoft and Bungie revealed an onslaught of other “Halo: Reach” news today at Comic-Con International, including a first look at Forge World, Versus Firefight mode and more.

The Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle is Available for Pre-Order Today

The Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle features an exclusive silver design and comes with two custom Xbox 360 Wireless Controllers with artwork inspired by the game, a Standard Edition copy of “Halo: Reach,” a token for the Limited Edition Elite armor set, an episode of “Halo Legends” and a “Halo: Reach”-themed Xbox 360 wired headset. As an added touch, the specially designed console in the Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle not only captures the look and feel of the game, but also features custom sound effects from the “Halo” universe.

Designed by Bungie, the Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle includes all the features of the newly designed Xbox 360 console, such as a 250 GB Hard Drive and the fastest built-in Wi-Fi for the easiest connection to Xbox LIVE. The bundle is available in limited quantities and only while supplies last, so fans who want to own a piece of the “Halo” mythology are encouraged to pre-order quickly. The Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle has a suggested retail price of $399 USD, and will be available on Sept. 14. To offer a closer look at the contents of the Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle, Microsoft and Bungie unveiled an unboxing video of the bundle, which is available for download today on Halo Waypoint and Halo.Xbox.com.

The Xbox 360 hasn’t really been the greatest hit in the Japanese market, constantly losing out to the Japanese Nintendo Wii and Paystation 3. However, things seem to be taking a turn for the better with the release of the new “slim” Xbox 360.

In the last week over 17,370 units have been sold, almost an 800% increase of the week before, and over 15,000 of those sales were the new model. The console still didn’t manage to out sell the PS3 and Wii which sold 19,578 and 19,155 units respectively, but with that much increase Microsoft can’t really complain.

Perhaps the Xbox 360 can take off in Japan after all, even if it has taken 5 years and a redesign!

Since the official reveal of the new Xbox 360 slim little over an hour ago, a lot of information has been gathered that will make a few things clear before you jump the gun and make any assumptions. To mae things easier we’ve compiled a list of bullet points and will add to them as we gain information…

The new Xbox will be released later this week in North America at a price of $299. The console will then hit Europe on July 16th with a retail price of £199.

The console features a built in 250GB HDD (although it can be removed with ease), built in WiFi supporting 802.11b/g/n.

The console is much smaller than the current 360, in fact it can fit inside the shell of one as demonstrated at E3. However, it is most noticeably shorter.

The console will run much quieter than previous 360 models – “whisper quiet”.

The rear of the console features 3 USB 2.0 ports, an AUX port, an Ethernet Port, Standard A/V and HDMI, TOS link and Kensington lock support. The Power input is also similar to that of the Slim PS2 rather than the current large, custom power input.

Currently, the only colour is glossy black.

With the rumours of a slim Xbox 360 (similar to what Sony have done with their Playstations) growing, all we really needed was concrete proof of such a thing. Unfortunately, no concrete proof has been found but leaked pictures of a potential motherboard of such a console have arisen.

The pictures show the motherboard of what certainly looks like an Xbox 360 motherboard, however, the board is noticeably small and has the CPU and GPU in a single chip rather than separatly like on the current consoles.

Later in the day, rumours of this being a new Xbox 360 motherboard were claimed as untrue. “Clarkdale is a PC processor combining a dual-core Nehalem derivative with Intel integrated graphics. It has absolutely f*ck all to do with the 360.” said a member on the NeoGAF forums.

Whether or not the rumours of a new Xbox prove to be true, this is certainly very exciting news. It could boost sales of the Xbox 360 back through the roof and a redesign could be just what the console needs to beat those infamous RROD errors.

Turns out Steve Ballmer’s talk up at the University of Washington delivered even more teasing info than we were initially expecting upon him walking into the meeting. In the transcript of the subsequent Q&A session, Steve is shown to have delivered the following statement when discussing the topic of large-screen televisions and Microsoft’s related hardware strategy:

For that big screen device … there’s no diversity. You get exactly the Xboxes that we build for you. We may have more form factors in the future that are designed for various price points and options, but we think it’s going to [be] important.

It’s safe assumption that the new form factors points to a new slimmer model of the Xbox 360. Though the price points he mentions are wide open for speculation. But while on that trail of thought we also shouldn’t discount the idea of an Xbox 360 with Project Natal hardware integrated into its shell – while is perfectly feasible given the push Microsoft appear to be giving the Natal hardware.

After last night’s problems with certain Playstation 3 consoles, Sony have advised that users don’t use their PS3s until the error has been fixed – hopefully within 24 hours.

Fortunately this doesn’t concern all users. The error – “8001050F” only affects some users who own the “fat” Playstation 3. Although you may not have been affected, it’s advised that you still don’t use the console until the problem is officially fixed. PS3 Slim users won’t have to worry though.

Problems found as a result of this error include…

The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.

When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.

When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”

When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”

Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

This could be bad news for Sony but hopefully they’ll fix it within the 24 hours that they said they would. You’ll just have to make Heavy Rain, MAG or whatever you were looking forward to playing wait another day or two.
