The announcement has been backed up by publisher Square-Enix who describe the panel as “Meet the development team, including Creative Director Kim Swift (Portal, Left 4 Dead 1, Left 4 Dead 2) and the rest of the Airtight Games team, and hear their explanation of how they are bringing an incredibly fascinating and quirky game to life”.

If you’re at PAX this weekend the panel is at 7:00pm PST on the 27th.

It was announced that those who purchase Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 may unlock a Steam Play (PC & Mac) copy of Portal 2 at no additional cost by linking their PSN and Steam accounts.

“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”

“We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers,” said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. “PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites.”

Portal 2 is due for release on the PlayStation 3, PC, Mac and Xbox 360 this April.

In 2007 the original Portal title was a breakout success; so hopefully a four year production wait will bring parallel success – or maybe it’s just that bit too much of a wait for such a small title.

Valve today announced that Portal 2 — the sequel to the ground-breaking title that won over 30 game of the year awards, despite missing its original ship date — will now be available the week of April 18th, 2011. This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve’s proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time. Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date.

Steam is available on www.steampowered.com for both PC and Mac now, it’s free to download with many games to choose from and buy.

After Valve hinting at it for ages, it’s now been confirmed that the Steam Platform will be coming to Mac. As an added bonus, it’s first game to be released simultaneously on Mac and PC will be the newly announced andhighly anticipated Portal 2. Furthermore, Valve is rolling out something called Steam Play, which is a backend feature that will allow players to play games on Windows or Mac for one purchase price. Again, Portal 2 will support this, along with Steam Cloud, so your saved games will transfer between platforms.

This could be a great opportunity for all Mac and PC users so it’ll be one to watch for any PC gamer.
