Oh dear lord, according to a British police officer interviewed by a London newspaper the recent London riots are actually the fault of video games. The constable was quoted in saying ”These are bad people who did this, these kids out of control.”

He continued “When I was young it was all Pac-Man and board games. Now they’re playing Grand Theft Auto and want to live it for themselves.”

An extract of the actual article reads: “Children aged between 10 and 14, said to have been inspired by video game Grand Theft Auto, were seen rampaging through Enfield and Brixton as riots and looting also spread to Dalston and Fulham.” however after this video games aren’t actually referenced again.

Another ’cause’ of the riot brought up by the BBC is technology which you can read here. Can we really blame this on a video game, I’d like to know your opinions below.

Read an extract from their article, below:

“The sites are: CashForDeadDreams.com, SixFigureTemps.com, StopPayingYourMortgage.net, HammersteinFaust.com and LifeInvader.com. You’ve probably noticed that they’re all parodying financial help services in some way, the kind that advertise at mid day during the week and ask for your gold. ”

They also went on to say:

“The domain registrations fit with the usual GTA viral tactic of having real-world representations of in-game businesses and it looks like a lot of them in GTA V will be poking at our current financial woes. “

Stay posted for more news regarding Grand Theft Auto V Domains bought, or any other Rockstar activity, as we’ll report them as soon as it becomes available!

Danny Bilson of THQ has claimed that Saints Row 3 is ‘definitely not about gangsta anymore’ in an interview with CVG.

The first Saints Row titles where heavily gangsta themed gold chains, bling and all so the news that Saints Row 3 will be heading in a new direction has raised some eye brows. “We don’t compete with GTA. We’re differentiating even further with GTA with this one,” Bilson explained he then went on to say “The new Saint’s Row will be less urban – it’s definitely not about ‘gangsta’ anymore at all. And it’s more fun and almost sillier and wackier and weirder than the other one.”

Understandably THQ are trying to keep things fresh however their Saints Row franchise has always been overshadowed by RockStar’s juggernaut of a franchise Grand Theft Auto. With the release of Saints Row 2 and then Grand Theft Auto 4 some people began to prefer THQ’s effort and shunned Rockstars attempted at creating a grittier GTA however Bilson was hugely impressed with GTA4 and the following to say on the game I love GTA – especially the last one, which knocked my socks off. That’s almost like a Martin Scorsese cartoon, right? We are more like the Mad Magazine version of that or something. It’s colourful, it’s wild, and it’s fun.

Naturally Saints Row 1 was compared to GTA: San Andreas and dismissed as something of a clone but was praised for the overall experience, however Saints Row 2 made a name for its self and laid a claim to the king of the sand box games by combining fully story co-op, a wealth of customizable options and a huge world to explore packed full of mini games.

Some gamers even preferred Saints Row 2’s fun approach instead of Rockstar’s grittier GTA4; however Bilson had good things to say about GTA4 while addressing the comparisons made between Saints Row and Grand Theft Auto franchise by saying “The only thing it has in common with GTA is open world, tonnes of options for the player and a certain amount of crime. But even in the new game, it’s not exactly like that either. There are new gangs in a new world and it’s not just about criminals.”

THQ seem set on developing the Saints Row franchise and expanding its horizons into the realm of 3D via Nintendo’s 3DS, be sure to keep a eye on the franchise as all signs point towards interests time ahead.

Rockstar, the publisher behind the recently released Red Dead Redemption, and made famous by their Grand Theft Auto franchise, have reported that their plans to attend at E3 in Los Angeles later this month have been terminated. Instead, they’re opting to show off some of its E3 material to press at a later date.

“In the end, we feel we simply don’t have enough time to show as much as we would like in the time available,” a spokesperson told CVG, adding that the two aforementioned were once slated to be shown at the event. Rockstar confirmed-confirmed their lack of a “presence” at the show to VG247 as well.

So there are we? Rockstar won’t be attending E3 officially, and while it’s still possible that a Grand Theft Auto or some other new game could be revealed at the Los Angeles-based event, though it will not be Rockstar making the golden announcement.

Stay tuned for more information regarding their promised future press updates.

Analyst Mike Hickey of Janco Partners has claimed that Rockstar will grind the internet to a halt prior to E3 with the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 5.

Hickey made the claims via a note and followed it up with the following statement

“There is building suspension for a pre-E3 GTA V announcement, although we expect nothing from Rockstar at this year’s official E3 event,” he also added “We think the next iteration of GTA for console can significantly outsell its predecessor, reflecting on the sales acceleration of the prior cycle GTA console iterations, an accelerating core gamer installed base, and the most talented / motivated development team in the world, in our view,”

As expected Take Two and Rockstar have been tight lipped when it comes to the subject of the next GTA and there fondness to confuse the press and try and get them off their tracks hasn’t gone unnoticed, for example back in September 2009 Take Two president Strauss Zenick gave a utterly confusing comment on the subject of announcements saying the following

“We’re not going to announce it. We’re not going to announce when we’re going to announce it. And we’re not going to announce the strategy about announcing it or about when we’re going to announce it either, or about the announcement strategy surrounding the announcement of the strategy.”

The only positive news out of Rockstar on the subject of the next GTA came in the form of Rockstar co-president Dan Houser claiming they were still yet to think of main characters and a main setting for the game before they went on to do anything.

All eyes are set towards Los Angeles Convention center on June15th to 17th for this years E3

Modern Warfare 2 smashes it's way into being a title-holder

It should come as no surprise – after months of building anticipation for the title, Modern Warfare 2 smashed every day-one video game sales. Selling over 4.7 million copies in the opening 24 hours, these figures are astonishing.

In the region of just North America and UK, Activision estimate sales of around $310 million. Making Modern Warfare 2 the “biggest launch in history, across all forms of entertainment.”

In comparison, North America’s biggest day-one film gross, The Dark Knight, took in $158.4 million during its July 20, 2008, premiere.

Before Modern Warfare 2 took the record, the previous title-holder was Grand Theft Auto 4, which also took in $310 million – but that was counting all global regions – so presuming at least one copy of Modern Warfare 2 sold in Japan, it’s clear Activision has raised the bar.
