Cabela’s Adventure Camp is now being published by Activision (dun dun dun!) as a summer camp adventure game, compatible with Kinect, and purely aimed at kids. The game features many mini games for the family to take part in which consist of many of the activities you’d find at a traditional summer camp. Whether this is good or bad news is entirely subjective, the trailer and screenshots are below so decide for yourself!

Possible new menu background?

'New World' options - Survival & Creative mode are available, no 'Adventure' mode shown here

Addition of a 'More World Options...' button, could be the new world generation coding notch has been working on lately? who knows)

• Creative mode includes and option to fly when ‘Jump’ is double clicked (un-clear how to travel up and down at this stage?)
• You can set game mode per player! Notch: ‘so you can set it per player in multi-player, having your mods as creative mode’

Inventory in Creative mode shows all items in the game. (possibly some new items also? vines?)

New foods? WATERMELONS? lol

NPC villages seem to be present in both survival and creative mode (No NPC's shown in the video *SadFace*)

The terrain generator has been updated to include ravines...

... and rivers!

Biomes are more distinct and much larger

Hunger Bar, Experience bar (as long as your hunger bar is full your health with restore over time)

Combat experience is gained by killing mobs (chickens now seem to drop a chicken not an egg now?)

Experience orbs flash from yellow to green

When picked up they fill the bar at the bottom

Experience points cannot currently be spent on anything (3 skill points for killing a chicken) but they are working on a 'fun system of doing that'

New draw powerup' animation for the bow (It also seems you can strafe a little while the bow is drawn back?)

The distance the arrow travels is dependent on the time you hold down

You gain 'critical hits' from using the bow or jumping and hitting a mob on the way down. (sparkly animation - probably not final effect)

Cows may now drop meat (looks like pork so may not be real?)

• You can SPRINT by double tapping (currently is time-limited but they plan to have infinite sprint but it will drain food)

Spiriting and hitting an animal or mob will knock it back 'really far'

Notch suggests it is a good tactic to use on spiders & creepers

• New lighting engine, day and night transitions are faster and much smoother

Night is brighter by default (this should help with my videos) New Plains biome, rolling hills and long grass.

Brightness Slider (very handy for YouTube commentators)

Much improved (more realistic) torch light effect

Updated Creeper explosion animation (big white cloud then to crescent mood shapes)

Endermen (peaceful until you look directly at them, place cursor on them)

If you do place your cursor on them they 'kinda freak out and start looking at you' If you look away after that point they will start attacking you

p.s. they teleport to you so you cannot run away

Although they do seem they die in water? (see this video) Endermen have also been added to the MinecraftWiki and it is rumoured they drop diamonds on death. This is unconfirmed though

• The main focus of the update is to reward exploration and combat
• Other NPC areas include abandoned mines and strongholds (both infested with monsters) See video here

Do zombies now drop some sort of meat? x2 maybe?

New eating animation (lasts around two seconds) It would be interesting to see this from another players perspective, I wonder if Steve's mouth moves? (omnomnomnomnom)

The score on death still displays &e0 (does this mean something in code?)

The 1.8 update is going to be split in to parts as it is getting too large (states notch), The first part should be released within a few weeks then they will finish up the rest and release it as 1.9

The screens were first shown at Quakecon and then posted onto Bethesda’s blog a few days ago.

Until now.

It’s been announced at ComicCon 2011 that a new limited edition console is on the horizon – and if the title didn’t give it away for you, it’s a Star Wars one.

Designed to bring out your inner geek, we have an R2-D2 themed box, a C-3PO themed controller and a white version of Kinect.

They announced three classes and released three screenshots in preperation for the September 9th release. We’ve got a short summary of the classes below straight from THQs official descriptions, as well as two Space Marine screenies and one incredibly cool looking Chaos Marine!

First up, the Tactical Marine & Chaos Tactical Marine:

Tactical Marines are the mainstay of Space Marine forces, shielding humanity from the countless threats assailing it. Their traitorous counterparts, Chaos Space Marines were once loyal servants of the Emperor but are now corrupted by the Warp.  Both groups of elite warriors are the versatile front line troops that bear the brunt of operations. They can wield a wide variety of weapons with great effect, which we wanted reflected in Space Marine’s multiplayer game modes.

Tactical Space Marine

In multiplayer the Tactical Space Marine strikes a balance between ranged combat and close combat.  Unique weapons to this class are the Plasma Gun, Stalker Pattern Bolter, Storm Bolter, Mechanicus Vengeance Launcher and Melta Gun.  In melee, this class wields a simple but effective combat knife.

Class Perks:

• Teleport Homer – Allies re-entering combat can do so at your position, as long as you remain alive.  A great way to keep the pressure on the enemy.

• Weapon Versatility – Allows the player to equip an extra primary weapon, truly exemplifying the versatility of the Tactical Marine.

Weapon Perks:

• Kraken Bolts – Bolter deals more damage to enemy Armor and can punch through targets.

Next up, the Devastator Marine and Havoc:

With access to powerful weapons such as the Heavy Bolter, Lascannon, and Plasma Cannon, Devastators and Havocs wield amazing firepower.  They are most often found in holding key positions with good fields of fire to bring their weapons to bear from long range. Overwhelming firepower is what they offer at the expense of maneuverability.

The Space Marine Devastator

In multiplayer the Devastator and Havoc are fearsome when engaged in a ranged firefight.  They can lock down sections of the map with their firepower, regardless of what weapon they wield.  Each of their weapons offers its own powerful alternate fire mode, such as the Plasma Cannon’s deadly charged shot or Heavy Bolter’s braced stance with an increased rate of fire.

Class Perks:

• Feel No Pain – Increased resistance to damage from close-combat weapons and explosives.

• Furious Stomp – Increased damage and area of effect when executing a stomp.

Weapon Perks:

• Heavy Bolter Coolant – Greatly reduced heat build-up for the Heavy Bolter

And last but not least, the incredibly cool looking Assault Marine & Raptor:

Assault Marines and Raptors are equipped for close quarters melee combat. Jump packs allow these squads to quickly close in on the enemy, dropping from the sky in their midst.  Striking hard and fast at vulnerable points in enemy lines, this class uses speed and maneuverability to exploit enemy weaknesses.

The Chaos Raptor

In multiplayer the Assault and Raptor classes are equipped with jump packs that allow them to quickly move around the battlefield and perform a devastating ground pound attack from the air.  They can equip powerful melee weaponry including the Chainsword, Power Axe, and Thunder Hammer along with side-arms like the Bolt Pistol and Plasma Pistol.  The Assault class can be key to breaking an enemy’s grip on the battlefield.

Class Perks:

• Blast Off – Engine exhaust when jumping away causes damage to enemies.

• True Grit – Equip the Bolter in place of the Bolt Pistol, holding it one-handed.

Weapon Perks:

• Swordsman’s Zeal – Regain some health with each successful strike of the ChainSword.

Overall, these screenshots have really wet my appetite for the game. I was already looking forward to it, and now I can’t wait. The only dilemma, is which class do I want to start off as first???

The title is set for release on September 6^th 2011.

I was slightly disappointed to hear that all the enemies in the game would be replaced by insects, or so I thought, as to me the robots in the previous title were some of the most fun to fight and the most visually striking. But it would appear that I was mistaken! These definitely look like robot insects to me!

Even more giant spiders! Am I the only one reminded of the tanker bug from Starship troopers when looking at this image? I hope he doesn’t explode lava upon expiration either way…

As you can see, the developers have adopted a very stylized and cel-shaded style which is very striking and fits well with the overall theme of the game.

Jetpacks! These are part of the new armor sets you can choose to equip your character with. Now you can zoom through the sky as you deal fiery death to your insect foes.

This bulky fellow is showing off the tank like armor set, it seems to afford a lot of protection at the cost of any sort of mobility. You can forget about flying round the map in this thing!

Below are two trailers showing various aspects of the game. The first is a general trailer showing of all that’s on offer, whilst the second is specifically about the new survival mode which allows you and 5 friends to team up online in an attempt to survive against wave after wave of bugs. Sound awesome? Yeah, I thought so too.

That’s closer than I’d ever want to get to a stinger that size…

Vehicles are returning to provide some heavy fire support when the fly swatter just won’t cut it. Let’s hope they’re slightly more useful than the entirely crap vehicles that were featured in EDF 2017!

An ant aint no match for several hundred pounds of steel spewing forth varying degrees of molten death. Still, it won’t stop his buddies from trying by the looks of things!

Robots! Flying saucers and 30 ft laser spewing cyclops’ seem to be the order of the day here. Best be whipping out that rocket launcher!

Overall EDF: Insect Armageddon is shaping up to be a fantastic budget game. It has the inclusion of co-op over Xbox Live which was distinctly lacking in the first title, it also brings an all new 6 player survival mode to the table! For a mere £28 this is definitely a title you should keep on your radar.
