A Casual Eye: Evoland (OSX/PC)
What Is Evoland?
Evoland is a game and a story. The story of action adventure gaming as seen in the Zelda or Final Fantasy series, starting with the early age of action RPGs, when a few pixels were enough to make us dream for hours. New players will discover a bit of video game history and a very fun gameplay, and veterans will also enjoy a host of references to legendary titles scattered along the game.
Evoland Classic was originally created by Nicolas Cannasse for a Ludum Dare competition in about 30 hours. Turns out the game won the first place (out of around 1400 games) and quickly reached over 300 000 players within a couple of months.
With such a great feedback from our community and given our love for the original concept, we decided that Shiro Games should work on a bigger and more refined version of the game.
The game will enhance and continue the story started in Evoland Classic, taking you further along the history of action adventure gaming, adding collectible items, new monsters and bosses, and more importantly new play styles and full 3D environements!

Because I am a massive gaming n00b it took me a bit of time to work out what I was doing. I didn’t know it would start in black and white (kinda blue-green I guess) so I was a bit taken aback. Once I got over this and opened a few chests colour seemed to flood the screen. I had a sword.. I stabbed some stuff. I got killed by a freaking bat! really a bat? come on now.. IT IS A BAT! did it really need to kill me? sadly at that point I lost colour, and a little hope.
I played some more, got a bit further, unlocked some more colours, this is getting exciting now! I got killed by another freaking bat! DAMMIT! I reset again! I killed that damn bat! then I got killed by something else! I then began to get a little frustrated.. Did I mention I was a n00b?
Pretty easy to pick up, nice simple graphics, monsters, bats, good music. It is fun how the game develops and grows as you progress.
Freaking Bats!, you die very easily, get sent back to main menu when you die, did I mention freaking bats, some controls were confusing. I did not like that on death you were sent back to the main menu.
