Five Ways To Be A Better League Of Legends Player

League of Legends has one of the most intense fan followings in modern video games. The player base is massive and constantly growing, unfortunately the community has a bit of a bad image. Hostile, aggressive and straight up rude is how a lot of people have viewed the League of Legends community, and it’s not without reason. After playing the game for a number of months it has become clear some people just need to learn how to become better players socially. So here is five ways for people to improve how they act within League Of Legends.

5) Don’t Overact To Mistakes:

Given the nature of League Of Legends (or just MOBAs in general) there are plenty of opportunities to recover from mistakes at various times of the game. Sure a early death is a little disheartening, but it’s hardly game changing. The amount of times I’ve witnessed a player explode into a rage at a recently killed team mate is unreal. Puking a volley of insults at a player does little to nothing but create a bad vibe. People will make mistakes, it will always happen, the key is how the team reacts when a error is made. When a player drops the ball , don’t get on their back, instead offer advice or (depending on your role) assist them when needed. The point is don’t create a instant bad vibe within your team, after all games can change with a simple deployment of solid team work.

4) Be Flexible:

When in the champion selection screen people tend to call out their positions and roles. This often leads to at least one person missing out on their preferred position. The way in which someone reacts to this is quite important. Throwing a hissy fit and selecting your preferred champion anyway does nothing to help the team. If anything it instantly puts your team at a disadvantage. Adjusting your play style and role/position to benefit is a simply way to boost morale and lighten the mood. It’s always a nice way to earn yourself some honour. Don’t throw your toys out of the pram, instead explain (if necessary) that you are unfamiliar with the role you are about to play. Respect will be earned and players will support you, and best of all it’s a positive move for everyone.

3) Be Gracious In Defeat & Humble In Victory:

This is possibly the hardest thing to pull off. Defeat in anything in life is often accompanied by frustration and disappointment, the key is handling them feelings. When defeated avoid lashing out at team mates or the enemy, instead take it in your stride. Simply state the universally recognized sign of respect known as ‘Good Game’ (or GG) and continue on your way. This can equally be applied to winning a game. If there is one thing worse than a bad loser, it’s a terrible winner. Bitters and arrogance can spoil the mood of any situation, don’t let it spoil your game.

2) Communication & Advice:

From the moment players enter the lobby communication becomes vital. Calling out your role and champion is the first of many conversations a player should be having with the people around them. In game things become more intense. Talking to team mates can truly aide a new, or even a veteran, player improve their enjoyment and general play. Suggesting builds and items in a genuine manner can provide positive results for all those involved. When someone asks a question, even if its seen as a ‘noob’ question, simply answer it without a once of cynicism. Assisting players in any shape or form can lead to building bridges with people which often leads to establishing a decent friend base within League of Legends.

1) Be Selfless:

At it’s core any MOBA game is all about team work. One player refusing to gel with his or hers team makes a noticeable impact on all stages of the game. Stealing a players farm doesn’t just effect that one player, it effects the team and the odds of being victorious. Don’t sit back and let other players do all the work while you charge in trying to gain all the glory, it rarely profits anyone. Aide team mates when ever you can, help junglers pull buff monsters, gank lanes in dire need of assistance, simply avoid being selfish. The most effective players within League of Legends are all team players. Combine this with good communication skills and players will enjoy playing with you.
