Star Citizen exceeds expectations, supplements with Kickstarter
Last week we reported that Star Citizen, the new game from space-sim guru Chris Roberts, was crowd funding $2Million in an effort to secure further outside backing he would need to make a new space simulation game akin to his greatest hits from the mid-nineties – Wing Commander and Privateer!
The site, which was independently maintained, fell at the hands of eager pledgers quickly as they rushed to throw down some hard earned cash in hopes of a classically styled, PC-based universe for them to explore.
In an effort to stem the flood of people piling on to their own site, Cloud Imporium Games have created a supplemental campaign of five-hundred thousand dollars on the popular Crowd-Funding Site Kickstarter. Rewards for both campaigns are the same and allow a more stable platform for users to pledge their money to.
Currently Star Citizen‘s website is running fine and after nine days they sit just over their half-way point at $1.1 Million while the Kickstarter Campaign has garnered nearly 25% of their projected goal (At the time of writing this).
