Rockstar announce new collection for both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

Yesterday Rockstar announced a new collection which will contain some of their best titles. Named the Rockstar Game Collection: Edition 1 the title will include four games from Rockstar’s current generation which have appeared on both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

The collection will include Episodes from Liberty City, which encompasses Grand Theft Auto 4 plus the two additional DLC packs with extra playable characters. The Lost and the Damned follows a motorcycle club as they strive for more power and against an internal struggle that threatens to tear them apart while in the Ballad of Gay Tony you follow a club manager drawn in to the desperate and dangerous gangland life of Liberty City.

Red Dead Redemption follows John Marston in the American Wild West as he fights to escape his past life of blood and war. Marston is drawn in to local feuds that spill into Mexico and across the West. Although similar in formula to that of Rockstar’s previous games Red Dead Redemption breathed a vibrant and new life into the formula as it brought about a whole new environment in the old west that was hard to shy away from.

L.A Noire was revolutionary in its use of facial motion technology which helped the games constant use of interrogations and suspect behaviour analysis. Set in the 1940s, the game follows the exploits of war veteran Cole Phelps as he makes his mark on the LA police department from Patrolman all the way through to homicide detective.

Midnight Club L.A is a fast paced arcade style street racer which focuses on the underground street racing scene across LA. The game enables highly customizable cars to go against each other and features a complete open world. The game comes with all previous DLC released before with a whole collection of real life cars ready for you to throttle through the bustling streets of LA.

Perhaps the largest omission to this set is Bully but the fact that it is specifically called Edition 1 is a dead giveaway that Rockstar don’t want to start the show with a show stopper. While the pack looks interesting and is setting a good precedent there isn’t much here to entice existing fans who probably already own a lot of the above games.

Rockstar Game Collection: Edition 1 hits stores in North America on November 6th 2012 for $59.99.
