Getting Back Into World Of Warcraft
Once upon a time, I was a major World of Warcraft player.
In the days before epics became extremely easy to obtain, when PvP didn’t exist and Shamans were over powered. These were the days in which I started Warcraft. I remained loyal to the game for years. I had seen new enemies emerge through patches and new lands arrive via expansions. Then my time came to a end, a few months before Cataclysm.
The world had changed greatly during my playing time. It’s quite staggering to think how much the game had been worked on (improved upon being subjective given your stance) and how much had been added. The concept of seeing a Shaman on the Alliance side would have been unheard of in 2004/2005. While all the new additions/changes added new content and new things to master the core game remained the same. Things were always familiar, the world always remained familiar give or take the release of a expansion or two. So what happens after a player goes back after two expansions?
While the core gameplay is the same, the sheer volume of added content between now and my last adventure in Warcraft is huge. Catching up on all the tweaks and changes to the classes is a overwhelming prospect. When I log back into the World of Warcraft for the first time in years it’ll be like playing a whole different game. Sure questing, farming and the ‘holy trinity’ (tank/heal/dps) elements will still be there, but everything else will be new.
Mists of Pandaria will be a fresh new take on the world I once played in on a daily basis. A new race and a new class offer a real appeal for veterans of WoW who have become jaded with the game. Relearning all of the basics and new tricks of the game may be daunting but it’s still a positive. Perhaps learning everything again will reignite the spark I had for the game all that time ago. On the flip side it could serve as a reminder as to why I quit in the first place. Either way getting back into World of Warcraft will be a strange experience, but one things for sure…a Pandaren Brewmaster will be leveled.
