How are you all?

First of all, Mojang released another Pre-Release of 1.9 on Thursday

Beta 1.9 Pre-Release 4

This adds ‘The End’ (A new world accessed through a new portal), Working enchanting and a few new blocks..

Developments This Week…

Code Freeze…

As I mentioned last time Notch plans to finish development on Minecraft by 18th October and from then on work on optimization etc for the November release. 11-11-11 was talked about but I believe it has been pushed back, I am unsure of the final date but It seems it will be during Minecon (18-19 November).

Jeb tweeted about this a little this week;

Very exciting.. Then as soon as he built up our expectations…..

Boo! … Well at least Minecon is not too far away.. Any of you lot going? I wish I could!

Notch posted some more info on this on his Blog;

The adventure update is going great! We’re adding features and cramming in content, and then started feature creeping and content creeping. What we’ve got on our hands now is somewhere in between a finished Adventure Mode update and a version of the game we’d be proud to call just “Minecraft”. Not “Minecraft Beta” or “Minecraft Alpha”, but just plain and simple “Minecraft”.
And we’re going to release that version of the game live on stage in Vegas at MineCon! Woooo!
Up until then, instead of trying to squeeze in another real release, we’re going to do weekly (or so) pre releases, aimed at advanced players. We release these via twitter, so make sure to follow me (@notch) and Jens (@jeb_) if you’re interested in those.
Also, we’re finally adding a dragon.

Dragons

Notch tweeted a ‘secret’ early this week;

notch: The surprise was successfully deployed, btw. It’s a secret surprise, though.

As you can see there is something flying above, a Dragon? and a new block?

This can all be seen in Pre 4 now but at the time it was exciting.. (It seems Dragons may only appear in ‘The End’ realm?)
It seems Notch may have deleted the tweet with a link to the video soon after posting it? not sure why?

He has also been working on the strength of the dragons;

notch: The dragon phases through terrain, and is 100% invulnerable now. Now to make it more difficult.. Hmm..
notch: @EastBayWilly i made it vanish all blocks it hit. That was awesomely destructive, but expensive in MP. =D

It seems from all I have seen lately that Dragons only tend to be around at night?

notch:I’m nerding out so bad over dragons right now. Thanks for all the great feedback and suggestions.
notch: After release, I will totally work on slightly less dangerous dragons that don’t destroy terrain and can land and whatnot. They will be red.

p.s. It seems they may be called ENDERDRAGONS, this stems from ‘The End’ and Endermen. I need to play 1.9 Pre 4 and see what this is all about really. Anyone seen any good videos on it?

Enchantments

Jeb has been working on Enchantments this week (Now working in Pre 4)

He asked twitter for some ideas..

jeb_: Ok I’m gonna get so much spam for this but… A good name for an enchantment that only adds a damage bonus vs undead mobs? (On swords)
jeb_: Nonono, not the name of the sword, I need a name for the enchantment. I mean, “Holy” isn’t an enchantment name
jeb_: Sure, “Holy Damage” works, but it’s so religious =)
jeb_: Oh lol, now my twitter stream is being throttled… I’m so dumb sometimes. Btw, the name I’m using at the moment is “Bane of Undead”
jeb_: Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I will use “Smite” because it feels short and simple, even if it isn’t clearly about undead

This does look quite fun.. I can see myself using this more than Potion brewing.. I failed at that so hard!

A round Moon & Sun?

Notch dropped the bomb on us when he announced he wanted to make the sun and moon round…

notch: Aaaand now the sun rises in the east. #breakallthesunrises

This caused a lot of upraw! How can there be round things in Minecraft? was what many people were saying.. For me I quite like the squareness of the mood.. I thought it was quite sweet. A nice square Sunset

Quare seems to be winning at the moment! It is amazing that 150,000 votes have been counted.

notch: Naturally, I counted the “do not care” votes as “you decide”. Next up, I’m invading a neighbouring country.

In Other News…

Walking Dead style…

I’m not sure where this came from but here is some info on the ‘world type’ options in Minecraft;

jeb: Got lots of Qs about the ‘world type’. Not sure, but what has been mentioned is to have flatlands, and I loved the idea of a ‘caves world’

I was thinking you could maybe have a ‘classic’ world? With no new stuff

Some changes made to potion brewing?

jeb_: Since Ghast Tears are so hard to get, I’ve decided to replace the “Instant Health” with “Regeneration” for them

The Mojang guys were doing some testing on a server and they invited everyone one;

Notch is also adding ‘Multiple hit-boxes’ for mobs;

notch: Yep, I’m going to have to let mobs have multiple hit boxes.. Crap. Much crap. This is going to be horrible to implement. First: MvC3!!

Does this mean we will get some beasty COD hit-markers?

Notch also posted a pic of some fun ‘Fan-Mail’ he received..

notch: I usually get very pleasant and kind fan mail. It makes me happy! Every now and then it looks like this
