Modern Warfare 2 Sells $1 Billion Worth of Copies
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was always going to be a big seller. With the huge number of people who played, loved and got to maximum rank on the first, something would have been incredibly wrong if it did not sell by the shedload.
After selling a reported $550 million worth in the first five days after release we were proved right. Two months on, the game has reportedly now sold over $1 billion worth of copies. As I am sure you can imagine, this is a rare feat for any game, to accomplish it in just two months is unbelievable.
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has exceeded our expectations and shattered theatrical box office and video game records,” stated Activision Blizzard CEO, Robert Kotick “There are only a handful of entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1 billion mark, which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass appeal of this game.”
Congratulations to Infinity Ward and Activision for accomplishing something so rare and prestigious. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing both aim above and beyond.
