Game Room Coming for Xbox 360 and PC

Although Microsoft didn’t really bring any suprises to CES this year, one that particularly stood out is Game Room. Coming to both Xbox 360 and Games For Windows, it’s main use is to bring classic or “old skool” gaming to the current High Definition, Multiplayer loving generation in which we game today.

The Game Room software will be free to download on both Xbox 360 and a Windows based PC although you will have to pay for the games that you play once the software is loaded. A single game, playable on both Xbox and PC will set you back 400 Microsoft Points, although you can choose to have it on just one chosen platform for the lower price of 240 Microsoft Points. You can also have a single game for just 40 Microsoft Points which is supposedly for the authentic experience of the arcade as it equates to 50 cents or two quarters if you are from America. 31 Titles have been announced and there are plans to bring over 1000, all with 1080p support on your HD TV and cross platform achievements and leaderboards.

Although this is both an Xbox 360 and PC release, the Xbox seems to be where this new feature shines, with avatar support and the ability to challenge your friends to a “showdown”. This new idea definitely has potential and it will be interesting to see what great games we’ll be able to play, maybe you will be able to play those 8 bit favourites again after all.

Game Room is set for a spring 2010 release.
