Guitar Hero Considers Subscription Model
It is inevitable more “Hero” games will be surfacing in the near future, but Activision aren’t strictly sticking with their current payment scheme, infact, Red Octane and Activision are looking into the idea of a monthly subscription allowing access to all Guitar Hero downloadable content.
In an interview with the Seattle Times, Red Octane co-founder Kai Huang spoke as though he is “trying to make it happen”:
“That’s definitely one of the things we would love to do. There are a lot of issues around music licensing. Consumers want it; I know I want it. We’re trying to make that happen.”
I have mixed reactions to this. The main issue that comes to surface is the pricing. Personally, anything over $10 a month, and it would not seem tangible. After all you can get a monthly subscription to a full game for that price – World of Warcraft comes to mind.
Not to mention the tracks available. It’s common knowledge everybody’s taste differs, but to justify the price they would have to have a larger range of songs than currently on offer. Tracks that branch into everybody’s preferred musical preferences.
What do you readers think? Depending on the tracks available would you be willing to subscribe?
