Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata released some good news for Wii customers this week with the announcement of WiiWare Demos.
Before you get too excited, this is only a pilot program, and most likely exclusive to Japanese customers. This does , however, address one of the biggest problems facing DLC in general. If I were to tell you my game put you in a labyrinth and you had to fight ghosts, you would be hard pressed to tell me if the game was Ghostbusters, or Pac-Man.
Allowing demos will allow customers to try a game and determine if they like it or not before they buy it. With DLC being sold without a physical format to possibly trade in or even give away, it takes a real leap of faith before you spend real money on it. If all goes well, Nintendo may very well see WiiWare sales go up.
